Monteponi was born as a mining village after 1850, when the mining area was granted by the state to a private company. At that time, roads were constructed, housing for miners and commercial spaces necessary for the life of the community, the "Bellavista" building (built in 1865-66) in a dominating position on the valley and surrounded by trees, the headquarters of the Mine and housing managers, the church (later demolished due to an important collapse of the structure).
