The small village of Clonfert is home to an elegant monastery that flaunts an imposing Romanesque architecture. It was a booming center of learning for centuries, and an anticipated 3,000 monks lived there. The interior of the monastery has some interesting highlights including a 15th-century chancel arch, a rosette, and a maritime motif in the form of a mermaid.
