Basilica di San Vitale Full review

Beautiful Views : We visited Ravenna for a couple days on our three week driving tour last year. Wish we had a couple more days. To say that the mosaic work in the churches exceeded our expectations is a serious understatement. San Vitale was most imposing although the exterior is rather mundane.

Mausoleo di Galla Placidia Full review

Real Gem : This mausoleum of Galla Placidia is an impressive ancient building taking the form of Latin Cross. The ceiling are decorated with mosaics. The atmosphere is sober. When you watch the mosaics painting you will be struck with magical feeling. I was amazed by the geometry of the building too and wondering how it was built 1500 years ago.

Gem Of A Place: A fantastic place that collects testimonies of the history of Ravenna. There are sarcophagi (not to be missed is the one called by the ophthalmologist and the traditio legis), stems, coins, weapons, majolica, herms, liturgical hurdles, mosaics, ivories, icons. The frescoes by Pietro da Rimini, of the famous three hundred of Rimini, are also very beautiful).

The gorgeous little chapel : The Archiepiscopal Museum is architecturally fascinating. The Bishop's chapel, an impressive collection of carved ivory and the little mosaic chapel, everything about this place is marvellous. The oil paintings, the marble tombs and the other artefacts are the highlights of the chapel.
