Awesome Experience : Great day out set in the beautiful countryside. Have been a few times now & is a great day out for all ages. Great outdoor play park with picnic benches, massive estate to explore with walks dotted all around. Have yet to take the castle tour but will be back to do so as the kids love it here. Also have music festivals etc on during the summer months.

Wonderful Views : Great walk with stunning views. It was a four hour round trip due to the fact we are not professional walkers and we went when there was deep snow which didn't help. I would recommend going when it is warmer in the spring or summer. Other than that it was an amazing experience and I would totally do it again.

Museum of Lead Mining Full review
avatarpicture maynardmakad THE BEST REVIEW
Going Deep into the hillside: Set in the picturesque village of Wanlockhead, Museum of Lead Mining offers visitors an incredible experience of going underground and explore the 18th-century lead mine. The miner's cottages retell the stories of the people that once lived there. The visitor's centre has a fine collection of beautiful rocks, minerals, and mining and other artefacts.

Would happily recommend to anyone: We live in Holywell and eat here with our daughter a couple of times a month. The food is always lovely. The prices are crazy low both for food and drinks. The staff is always friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere.

Fascinating artworks and wonderful garden: Packed to the rafters with masterpieces of art, sculptures, paintings and photographs, the house is a must-visit for art connoisseurs. Nestled deep in the heart of Kirkcudbright, the house is a living museum dedicated to the life and work of 'Glasgow Boy' artist E A Hornel. The surrounding Japanese-Inspired garden is a feast for eyes.

Brilliant Place : Thanks to less than brilliant road signage in Dumfries I stumbled across New Abbey on the Solway Firth Tourist Route. Unfortunately, the custodian was on the point of locking the gate at the end of the day and wasn't amenable to me 'just having a quick look around before you close'.

Decent Place : These ruins have a few interesting signs and notices around to provide a bit of history and context. There is plenty of parking, and the terrain is simple to navigate. It's also dog-friendly. Don't plan your day around a visit here as there is not a lot to do or see, but if in the area it's a nice hour pastime.
